Speculative project for the Jerwood Vanburgh Theatre, RADA, June 2013
This Hamlet is set in a Medieval Scandinavian fortress - wooden, dank, claustrophobic, bitterly cold, decaying and perpetually pelted by rain and snow. The fortress itself has existed since the time of the Vikings, and is littered with monuments to generations of warrior heroes who have been embroiled in endless battles over land. The plastic panels dividing the wooden floor can be flown in an out to evoke various spaces within the castle, whilst creating some exciting possibilities for spying.
